Civility in Politics forum October 7

Mary Kramer addresses the League of Women Voters of Iowa State Convention last summer in the union

The Ames Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters of Ames are committed to promoting civility in politics and government operations. Because of our shared concern about the incivility that permeates political discussions and impedes decision-making in government, we are co-sponsoring a program for citizens of Story County devoted to restoring civility in politics.

The Story County Civility in Politics kick-off will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Sheman building.  Mary Kramer, former President of the Iowa Senate and former Ambassador to Barbados, will discuss incivility in politics and help us to begin the process of moving toward more civility in our political discourse. We have invited leaders from Story County government, politics, business, education, the faith community and the media to participate in this event. Members of the public are also encouraged to attend.
