March 26 Legislative Wake-up

The fifth 2016 Legislative Wake-up was held in the Nevada city council chambers.   Linda Murken moderated as State Representative Lisa Heddens, State Representative Dave Deyoe, State Senator Bill Dix and State Senator Herman Quirmbach answered questions from the audience. Medicaid transition, Midwest Academy, Corporate Tax Credits, the SAVE Fund, Medical Marijuana, and Water Quality were among the topics discussed.

Fourth 2016 Legislative Wake-up held on March 19

Story County Legislators answered questions from the audience on such topics as racial profiling, early childhood education, identifying & addressing learning disabilities, restoration of voting rights for ex-felons, human trafficking and diverting education dollars to fund water quality.

March General Meeting Summary

Detective Elijah Hansen of the Ames Police Department, Eman Mahgoub of ACCESS Community Outreach and Attorney Tiffany Meredith, a Domestic Abuse Prosecutor with the Story County Attorney’s Office, gave very informative presentations on the role that each of them plays in supporting, protecting and helping the victims of domestic abuse. The audience participated with questions that included prevention, community involvement, education, the court system, and victim housing/transportation.

No Legislative Wake-up March 12

Schedule conflicts with Republican and Democratic Party County Conventions  required rescheduling.  The next Wake-up will be next Saturday, March 19.
