Why should I join?

The League of Women Voters, a respected national grassroots organization, where individuals like you are actively engaged in creating positive change on the local, state, and national levels. Become a member and serve as a leader in your community, and work to shape the important issues that keep our communities strong. It  is the organization where hands-on work to safeguard democracy leads to civic improvement.  Add your voice to over 100,000 League members and supporters across the country in making democracy work.

 

You will gain knowledge and experience through the study and discussion of timely and important topics. Through participation in League projects, you will contribute valuable service to the community. You will discover new interests, develop new skills and learn about crucial issues in your community. As you meet others in League who share your interests, you will make professional contacts and develop lasting friendships.
How much time does it take?
It's up to you! Many members choose to support the League only with their annual dues. Your membership alone gives us the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change. We cover a broad spectrum of issues and concerns; you may choose to become involved in one or more of them by actively participating in a group study, or listening to a panel of experts at a meeting or just reading about them in one of our publications.

Who is eligible to join?

Membership in the League of Women Voters is open to all citizens (men and women) of voting age. Associate membership is open to young people and noncitizens.

Membership is open to men and women 18 years or older.  Annual dues are $55.00 one member. Other available membership categories: Second household member $27.50. Student member $20.00. Nationally recruited member pays no local dues, but pays directly to the National League. Dues are not tax deductible.

What do I get?

You automatically become a member of LWV Iowa and LWV of the United States. You will receive their publications along with the newsletter from the Ames League of Women Voters called VOTER which is usually published 9 times each year . You will have the knowledge that you are adding your voice to a powerful force of members from all 50 states, Washington DC, the Virgin Islands, and Hong Kong.

How do I join?

 

It's easy! Print and fill out a form, then mail it with a check to us. Contact us at 515-292-7782 or info@ames.ia.lwvnet.org and ask for a membership packet to be mailed to you.
